In June 2020, Sachin Vaze -- the police officer responsible for 63 'encounters' and later suspended from the Maharashtra police force for his alleged role in the mysterious disappearance of a Ghatkokar blast suspect -- returned to Mumbai police ranks.

Nine months later, Vaze has been arrested in the murky and mysterious case that followed the explosive-laden car discovered near businessmen Mukesh Ambani's home and the death of the car's owner in a creek near Mumbai last month.

Before his arrest by the National Investigation Agency, Vaze was reported to be investigating several controversial cases.

Will the Vaze arrest destabilise Uddhav Thackeray's coalition government which has been under siege from a spurned Bharatiya Janata Party since the day it took office in November 2019?

Dominic Xavier ponders on the popular chief minister's latest headache.
