Dom's Take: HUH? No Winter Session

Educational institutions can open.

Places of worship can open.

Examinations can be held.

Religious events can be staged.

Mass election rallies can be planned for the assembly polls in Assam, Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu next summer.

But the pandemic makes it too dangerous for Parliament to meet for its Winter session.

Already at the start of the Monsoon session in September, citing coronavirus, Question Hour had been nixed, Zero Hour had been curtailed and no private members' bills were permitted.

Dominic Xavier wonders if the decision to abandon the winter session of Parliament is a harbinger of events to come.
