Dom's Take

One is puzzled.

On one hand, Narendrabhai's government is celebrating Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence.

On the other, the ruling establishment's favourite movie star -- one it has honoured in recent weeks with both a National Award for acting as well as a Padma Shri -- declared a couple of days ago that India only got fredom in May 2014, and not at midnight on August 15, 1947 as the history books tell us.

With the lady's retelling of history, it is perhaps time for Narendrabhai's government -- which is already remodelling the central vista in the national capital -- to commission a fresh sculpture to replace Devi Prasad Roy Chowdhury's famous Gyarah Murti sculpture on Sardar Patel Marg -- depicting the Mahatma and 10 other freedom fighters during the Dandi March in Gujarat 90 years ago -- with folks madam says got us Indians freedom seven years ago.

Dominic Xavier does the needful.
