Narendra Damodardas Modi has been so busy canvassing votes for his Bharatiya Janata Party in Bengal and the other states going to the polls he may have missed the news that the nation of which he is prime minister is now the country with the second most COVID-19 cases on the planet; India having passed Brazil -- which is run by the Covid denier, Jair Bolsonaro -- a couple of days ago.

Ever the event manager, even as several states -- specially those ruled by the Congress and other Opposition parties report a shortage of vaccines -- Modi wants us to celebrate Tika Utsav celebrating the nationwide vaccination against the coronavirus.

Will Modi and his government begin the battle against the second surge in the pandemic, which is now seeing cases mounting in BJP-ruled states like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, only after May 2, when the election results are declared asks Dominic Xavier.
