Delhi and its citizens are reeling under the severe impact of COVID-19 infections. There is an acute shortage of medicines, bed and oxygen in the national capital.

The situation is no different in many cities and towns across North and West India.

Despite the catastrophe, work on Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi's dream Central Vista Project -- worth Rs 20,000 crore (Rs 200 billion) -- continues uninterrupted. It has been classified an essential service!

Dominic Xavier is mystified by Modi's refusal to halt a scheme whose funds would be better deployed in providing better healthcare -- and yes, free vaccines -- to the Indian people.
