The national capital has registered a steep hike in seizure of arms and ammunition this year, registering a whopping 1600 per cent rise.

The biggest rise of 1540 per cent was registered in seizure of ammunition which rose from 1,264 in 2013 to 20,732 in 2014.

Delhi Police officials said that pistols, recovered by them, were mostly made in Khargone and Barwani districts of Madhya Pradesh.

Special Cell also recently seized 35 semi-automatic pistols, which were to be distributed to various criminal gangs operating in and around the national capital.

According to force's annual report, there were 700 fire arms seized from January to December 2013, but these numbers were increased with the seizure of 844 firearms till December 15 in 2014.

In 2012, police had seized 586 fire arms and 2,425 ammunition from different parts of the national capital.

In July last year, police had also seized 99 pistols meant for various criminal gangs operating in and around Delhi.

According to police, contraband weapons were earlier transported to the Capital from Bihar's Munger district, but Khargone and Barwani have now emerged as new hubs for illegal arms.

Police also said that Aligarh is also a major hub of suppliers of arms and ammunition to the criminals of Delhi-NCR.
