A businessman was allegedly shot at by two persons at suburban Andheri in Mumbai on Wednesday, according to the police.

The duo, who came on a bike, shot at businessman Deepak Bhandari, who was injured in the firing, the police said.

The accused, identified as Faraz Khan and Rakesh Parwe, who hail from Madhya Pradesh, were immediately arrested, after being chased by the police and the public, Deputy Commissioner of Police K Prasanna said.

"Faraz has claimed that he is the son of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman, who is also a member of the All India Congress Committee," Prasanna said.

A pistol and two cartridges have been recovered from the accused, he said, adding that the motive behind the crime was not known yet. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, the officer said.
