BJP to organise 'Chintan Baithaks' to diagnose poll debacle

The state units of Bharatiya Janata Party have been asked to make presentations on what went wrong during the Lok Sabha election, and suggest the remedial measures. Their reports will be compiled and placed before a Chintan Baithak (brain-storming session) to be attended by 20 odd senior members of the party.

BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who briefed mediapersons on Wednesday on the executive meeting, skirted a pointed question on whether it would discuss the issues raised by two senior leaders -- Jaswant Singh and Yashwant Sinha -- on the poll debacle.

"Four assembly elections are up-coming in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh and as such the state units will report to the executive on the poll preparations," Naqvi rather said.

The BJP on its agenda have plans to avoid fireworks on the poll debacle in its national executive meeting in New Delhi on Saturday and Sunday by taking stock of state-wise reasons for its poor performance, but differing the analysis for a separate Chintan Baithak in August.

Analysis from the state units is obtained as a routine after every election and it is discussed at length in the national executive, but it seems the BJP leadership is taking excuse of the separate meeting in view of the ongoing blame-game cooking up in the party for the past one week.

"The national executive discusses all issues, but it is not possible to say now what issues will be discussed exactly. We shall be discussing organisational and other important issues related to the Lok Sabha polls," Naqvi said.

He said the meeting would discuss and finalise the new membership drive that will be conducted after six years, as this is the year for the BJP's organisational elections. The executive would also decide future the programmes and adopt a political resolution.

The exact agenda of the meeting will be drawn up by the Central office-bearers' meeting in the party headquarters in New Delhi on Friday, Naqvi added.
