Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will not contest the forthcoming election in the state.

Laying all speculations to rest, Nitish informed media persons on Wednesday of his decision.

"I will not contest the coming assembly polls in October-November. There is no need for it, as I am a member of legislative council," he said at Janata Dal-United

headquarters in Patna.

"I will devote more time in elections campaign for party candidates and work hard for National Democratic Alliance's return to power," he said.

Nitish took oath as chief minister on November 24, 2005 when he was a Member of Parliament.

In May 2006, he resigned as MP after he took oath as a member of the Bihar legislative council.
