Five terrorists were killed in an encounter in the north Kashmir area of Bandipore district early on Wednesday, when the army foiled a major infiltration bid into the Indian side of the Line of Control.
A defence spokesman in Srinagar said a group of heavily armed terrorists were intercepted by the army near the LoC triggering an encounter in which five terrorists have been killed so far.
"The encounter in the area is still on. So far five terrorists have been killed by the army after the troops spotted a group of infiltrators trying to sneak into our side of the LoC," the spokesman said.
On Tuesday, a special police officer had been killed and a trooper wounded in another gunfight in the Sheikhpora forest area of north Kashmir Baramulla district.
Police sources said troops of Rashtriya Rifles and the police had jointly surrounded the forest area following information that a group of terrorists was hiding inside.
