Najma drops notice against Jaipal Reddy

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Najma Heptulla on Thursday dropped the privilege notice given against Information and Broadcasting Minister S Jaipal Reddy.

The minister reportedly made certain remarks against the chair while the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections (amendment) Bill was being discussed last week. The bill was passed on Wednesday.

Dr Heptulla told members during zero hour that she had received a letter from Reddy in which he had ''emphatically stated'' that he did not make any ''derogatory comment'' about the chair or the House.

Reddy said he had always held the chair and the House in ''highest esteem''. The deputy chairperson said that after Reddy's clarification she was treating the matter as closed.
