According to Google trends, people all over the world could not get enough of Prince Harry's fiancee 'Meghan Markle' in 2017.
The Suits actress featured fifth on the Global search list, second on the people search list, and first on the actors search list. Unsurprisingly, the countries with the highest volume of 'Meghan Markle searches included the United Kingdom, but surprisingly the UK came in fifth -- after Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Canada and Ireland.
The global search list was topped by Hurricane Irma, which caused great damage on Carribean islands like Barbuda in August.
It was followed by iPhone 8, iPhone X (both launched this year), and Matt Lauer (The Today Show host who has been accused of multiple instances of sexual misconduct ranging from 'inappropriate' behaviour to assault, respectively).
Taking spots 6 to 10, respectively are 13 Reasons Why (a hit Netflix show), musician and actor Tom Petty (who died in October), the fidget spinner (a toy), Chester Bennington (the Linkin Park frontman who died in July), and the Indian National Cricket Team.
Interestingly, the only other India-related topics on the global trends list popped up under 'Elections', 'Movies' and 'TV Shows'.
Taking fourth place on the elections list -- after 'German federal election' and 'UK election' -- is 'Uttar Pradesh election'. Surprisingly, Mumbai's 'BMC election' ranks eighth!
The TV shows list includes 'Bigg Boss', which is currently airing season 11, and 'The Kapil Sharma Show', which faced major setbacks this year due to controversies surrounding its host.
The movies list includes only one Indian film -- 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion'.
The other most searched terms across categories are: Matt Lauer among 'People', Hurricane Irma in 'Global News', iPhone 8 in 'Consumer Tech', French election in 'Elections', Wimbledon among Global Sporting Events, How to make slime.. under How to, Tom Petty among Losses, Cash me Outside in Memes, IT in Movies, Ariana Grande among Musicians and Bands, Chicken Breast recipe among Recipes, Despacito among Song/Lyrics, and Stranger Things among TV shows.
