On Thursday, February 11, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad passed away four days after he was rescued from the 30 feet deep Siachen ice sheet, in what was described nothing short of a miracle.

He joins nine colleagues -- Subedar Nagesha, Havildar Elumalai, Lance Havildar S Kumar, Lance Naik Sudheesh, Sepoy Mahesha PN, Sepoy Ganesan G, Sepoy Ganesan G, Sepoy Rama Moorthy N, Sepoy Mustaq Ahmed S and Sepoy Nursing Assistant Sunil Suryawansh -- from the 19 Madras, the 19th battalion of the regiment, who perished on the glacier last week, in eternity.
