'Two B'deshi generals killed in helicopter crash'

March 09, 2009 12:01 IST

At least two top Bangladesh Army officers, including a Major General, were killed on Monday after a military helicopter crashed in the country's central Tangail district, officials said.

"The Army helicopter crashed in a pond and rescuers are preparing to salvage the occupants," Tangail district police chief said.

The police official said he had no information yet about the number or identity of the passengers.

However, Army sources said general officer commanding of the army's western Jessore area, Major General Rafiqul Islam and another Lieutenant Colonel were killed in the crash while at least two other officers survived the accident.
