The Know India Programme was organised by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs with a view to promote awareness on India among young Non Resident Indians in the age group of 18 to 26. The Confederation of Indian Industries and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan are the organisational partners of the event.
Co-ordinator Conan Dumeil explained that the Know India Programme was introduced by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs six years ago. The aim of KIP is to help these youths get in touch with their Indian roots.
Indian embassies across the world seek participants for this programme and then choose from among the applicants.
Of the 34 participants this year, 9 are from South Africa, 5 from Australia and 4 from Malaysia.
This year, the programme was organised alongside the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, so that the participants get a chance to interact with a wide range of people.
The participants were first taken to New Delhi, where they met ministers and several dignitaries, before proceeding to host state Madhya Pradesh.
KIP is also putting together a website so that the participants over the last six years can keep in touch with each other.
