'Africa has resources, India has technology'

January 12, 2009
Jose Parayanken, chairman and managing director of Mozambique Holdings, Mozambique, observed: "We are highly in debt and less developed. We speak Portuguese. We were in the Soviet bloc in the old days. Exploitation led to the collapse of our economic structure. Our labour and technology have become obsolete.

"Mozambique has a quarter of India's agricultural land. It has a 2,200 km coastline and very little fishing. We have coal, hydroelectric power capacity, limestone and Natural gas. Africa has resources, India has technology. Come use our resources with your technology. We can have sugar mills there. India can support and help Africa. I want corporate India to come there."

A delegate from Lithuania gave an interesting trivia. He said, "Lithuanian language is based on Sanskrit. There are 10,000 words common to Hindi and Lithuanian, 4000 words have the same meaning. What more do we need to know to recognise our common heritage?"
