Air support was provided by combat jet Jaguars, which carried a large array of weapons and carried out rocket attacks on simulated enemy targets. MiG 29 aircraft carried out combat air patrol over Madhavpur to outmanoeuvre incoming "enemy" aircraft.

"Air support is critical to any amphibious operations since mortars and artillery are not available ab initio on landing," the officials said.
