As a mark of protest and agitation, the local ulema had asked Muslims to wear old clothes and black bands to express their dissatisfaction over the handling of the September 29 blasts, the general law and order situation in Malegaon and to express their grief for those who died in the blast.
However, during his press conference on October 1, IG Gupta told the gathered media that the edict was taken back by the ulemas and Muslims would celebrate Id as they do each year.
This confusion showed itself today as a huge number of Muslims turned up wearing black bands, black clothes or black caps.
