Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami and Election Commissioners Naveen Chawla and Dr S Y Quraishi arrived in Srinagar [Images] on a two-day visit on Wednesday afternoon for an on the spot assessment of the situation in the state which goes to polls beginning November 17.

They met representatives of nine national and recognised regional political parties of the state. They held detailed interactions with all to seek their feedback.

They also had detailed discussions with the deputy commissioners and district police chiefs of the valley, regarding measures to ensure fee, fair and smooth conduct of the seven phased poll.

They will visit Jammu on Thursday to review the arrangements there.
