Obama's most likely VP candidates
May 14, 2008
John Edwards: Like Gore, Edwards is another Southern Democrat US Senator who seemingly has it all -- Southern roots, charm, an impressive track record, etc. But, for some reason or another, he can't get over the hump.
In 2004, he served as the Southern yin to Northeast liberal Kerry's yang, and polls showed he helped, just not enough. Given Edwards disappointing third-ran status in this current Democratic race, some might feel like Obama is settling if he opts for Edwards. But the fact remains, Edwards polls well with social conservatives, especially evangelicals.
However, due to his decorated law background, most political pundits, feel Edwards' future is in the judiciary, as a federal judge and eventual Supreme Court Justice, rather than the legislature or executive branch.
