How Anshuman of Bankura got into MIT

May 13, 2008
Anshuman's physics and mathematics teachers -- Partha Meyuri and Manoranjan Deghoria -- were not surprised at all by their student's feat.

In fact, both teachers were bit upset when Anshuman had not topped the Madhyamik Examination.

"He is a genius. After years, we got a chance to teach someone as skilled as him," Meyuri told rediff.com, as Deghoria added, "At times, I felt I am not capable enough to teach him." It takes Anshuman three minutes only to memorise a theory of physics, no matter how intricate it is.

"His accomplishment has made us famous, earned for our Bankura Zilla School a place on the global map", the duo said in unison.

Though Anshuman is set to fly this autumn, the main concern for his parents is how to arrange for the flight fare.

"I have already got sponsorship offers from private companies like Tata Consultancy Services and Amrit Hatcheries, but I have decided not to accept any offer which comes with a condition," said Anshuman.

"I have also been offered assistance by two NRIs and former MIT students -- Bimal Kumar Ghosh and Tapan Guha -- if their offers are unconditional, I will consider accepting them," he informed.
