A fitting conclusion to the Apollo moon race era, after the brief American experience in operating the Skylab orbiting space station in 1973-74, brought competition full circle to cooperation.
In 1975, the United States and the Soviet Union achieved the first international human spaceflight, the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project.
