'Transporting arms and ammunition would have been difficult'

December 2, 2008
And if the Kuber had been parked in the sea around Sassoon Dock, nobody would have noticed it on Thursday morning, because the dock remained closed on Thursday and Friday. A curfew had been imposed on Colaba as the police dealt with the besieged Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, The Oberoi/Trident and the Nariman House.

The police in this area are not willing to confirm or deny if a boat did dock in the waters around Sassoon Dock. The location of this particular boat, before it was found, is something they cannot disclose as they work on their investigation, which is now in the hands of the Mumbai police's Crime Branch.

But the fleet owner at Bhau Cha Dhaka had an interesting take. "I find it hard to believe that they arrived with all that ammunition and weapons with them. As boat owners we know that transporting such heavy material to the shore by dinghies would have been difficult. And how could they have been so successful? I think these weapons were brought into Mumbai earlier or by some other route," he said.
