Militants on Friday made an abortive attempt to target a security patrol with a grenade in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir [Images], official sources said.

A grenade was hurled by militants at a security forces party at the main market in Bandipora district, 55 km from Srinagar [Images], around 9.30 am, the sources said.

The grenade fell short of the target and exploded near the roadside without causing any causality or damage, they said.

The area was immediately cordoned off by police with the help of security forces and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants, they added.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
