Rain, I don't mind
Shine, the weather's fine

September 27, 2007
Mumbai came to the party, deciding to flex its whimsical weather muscles.

Without warning, the sun came out. Initially glad to be drying up, soon we were rolling up sleeves furiously and hunting for hitherto forgotten sunglasses. The glare was scorching and the notorious Mumbai humidity hit us full in the face as water was efficiently shaken off umbrellas as they doubled up as parasols.

Young girls peeled off windcheaters to reveal Team India shirts, while a gang of guys perched enthusiastically on a roof -- yes, there was still room in the stadium, but one can't question the uniqueness of their vantage point -- went one better, doing a Dhoni and taking off their tees.

And just when we'd sweatily begun to dry up, the shower restarted. And on. And off. Rinse. Repeat.

And so journalistic feet stood, knee deep in midfield real estate, squelching around in ponds of mud with little bright green patches making an occasional appearance. It makes you begin to see the point of our players' traditional reluctance in 'diving, baba, diving.'
