Mothers carrying infants need not wait for hours in long queues to enter Lord Venkateswara's shrine in the Tirumala Tirupati temple.

A 'Quick Darshan' facility, which was till now offered to VVIPs, disabled and the aged, has been extended to mothers with babies less than one year of age.

They were being allowed in through the 'mahadwaram' (main entrance) to go near the presiding deity and offer prayers, temple authorities said.

The new facility was inaugurated by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams chairman B Karunankara Reddy.

Reddy said the TTD decided to offer quick darshan facility to reduce the inconvenience caused to mothers and children.
