'The pace of development should have been faster'

May 23, 2007
About the Common Minimum Programme

Quite a large number of programmes and projects which I have enumerated just now are part of the CMP. They have been implemented. The remaining programmes will also be implemented in the remaining two years.

Left criticism on the pace of implementation of the Common Minimum Programme

There are divergences of views, sometimes we have differences and that is not unlikely in the coalition but by and large we are adhering to the CMP and we are trying to implement it. Of course sometimes there may be differences and always there is scope for improvement. There is a saying that even the best can be improved. Therefore there is no room for complacency.

On deficiencies in the implementation of the Common Minimum Programme

I would not like to describe it as a failure. That too is the job of objective interpreters and objective watchers. It is not the job of the person involved in it. My job is not to write the report of myself. So no government can claim that it is hundred percent successful. But what are the areas of deficiency, what are the areas of success -- these objective assessments should be done by the outsiders.

I mentioned that the pace of development should have been faster. We have launched the 11th Five Year Plan. That is also a major achievement.
