The President exhorted the children not to discriminate against anyone on the basis of religion, caste or language and by following the path of honesty establish a society free of corruption and take pride in the achievements of the country and the countrymen.
Addressing the farmers and women present on the occasion, Kalam asked them to take a similar pledge.
He asked them not to discriminate between boys and girls and provide them equal opportunities and education.
"Hard-earned money should not be misused on liquor and gambling," he said, asking them to keep their families small for good health and prosperity.
Highlighting the importance of green cover, he asked them to protect forests, reduce pollution levels and plant five saplings each.
Breaking the security cordon, Kalam mingled with people freely.
