Warangal district police took into custody one Kwamen Apele, a national of Republic of Ghana when he arrived in Warangal town for collecting money from a medical college student who posed as businessman Agarwal.

According to Warangal District Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra, one Kwamen Apele of Ghana and his associates established contact with Warangal-based Muralidhar who introduced himself as Agarwal through the Internet.

The gang promised to help him win British Global Online lottery. They said he won the lottery of One million pounds equivalent to Rs 8 crore in Indian currency.

They asked him to pay a processing fee of Rs 14 lakh online. However, sensing foul play, Muralidhar, in turn, asked them to send someone to collect the amount at his place in Warangal.

When Kwamen Apele came to Hyderabad on Monday night, Muralidhar tried to clear his doubts, but found him to be a cheat. He informed the police. During interrogation, the police found him to be a member of a gang involved in duping people in India. The police are on look out for his associates Davidson Johnson, Jorge and others.

Mishra told a news conference in Warangal on Tuesday that with cyber crimes involving African nationals on the rise, the district police decided to inform the CBI officials and also the Interpol about the menace.
