A group of electropathy doctors on Monday morning climbed the BSNL mobile tower in Srinagar [Images] to press their demand for employment from the state government.

Electropathy is an alternative system of medicine that uses electricity to treat ailments.

It is among the many alternative systems that are not recognised by various state governments or the Indian Medical Council.

Early on Monday morning, three doctors clad in white aprons, scaled the high-rise BSNL mobile tower and have been threatening to jump off the tower if the police forced them to come down.

Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and are persuading the doctors to come down. A turn table ladder of the state fire services department is on standby near the scene.

It's been two months since the doctors staged their first protest. They have been staging dharnas, sit-ins, and hunger strikes to divert the attention of the state government towards their problem.

The doctors alleged that the state government had promised them jobs in 2006, but they say no headway was made to deliver the promise.

"We are in desperation and this is a desperate step to make the government realise our long standing problem of joblessness," said Dr Manzoor Ahmed.
