The Supreme Court has reserved its judgment on the petitions filed by various resident welfare associations and Delhi Pradesh Citizen's Council seeking to stay the central government notifications of September 7 and 15 allowing mixed use of the residential accommodations.

The three-judge bench comprising of Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, Justice C K Thakkar and Justice R V Ravindeeran heard arguments from the counsels of the central government, Delhi Pradesh Citizen's Council and various organisations of the trader's association in Delhi for over three hours.

The court sat beyond schedule to hear all parties before announceing its decision to reserve the judgment.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi, which has been carrying on the sealing of illegal shops in Delhi on the directive of the Delhi high court, in its fresh affidavit said that it would not seal over 2,000 streets mentioned by it earlier before the court as the new notification by the Union government has altered the ground situation and they are covered under mixed land sealing.

"The court would give its judgement on any day between Tuesday and Friday. But most probably it would come on Friday before the court closes for Dusshera holidays," Mukul Rohatagi, senior advocate of the apex court explained to the traders of Delhi who had gathered in large numbers outside the court.

Delhi police had thrown an extra security cover around the court to prevent any untoward incident either in the court premises or outside.

The traders on their part wanted status quo till the end of Diwali to allow them to work without being disturbed during the festive season.

Meanwhile, a late evening press release issued by the MCD has said that since the Delhi police has expressed its inability to provide personnel for the protection to its (MCD) staff members, it has directed all deputy commissioners to suspend sealing till September 30.
