India is closely monitoring developments in Thailand in the wake of a military coup in which the army wrested power from Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, a senior official said.

"The situation is being monitored closely and we are in touch with our embassy in Bangkok," a Ministry of External Affairs official said.

The official also denied reports in a section of media that some Indians had been affected due to the coup.

"All Indians are safe there," the official said.

Thailand Army Commander-in-Chief General Sondhi Boonyaratkalin has wrested power from Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and declared martial law in the country on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Indian Airlines operated a service to Bangkok from Kolkata.

Airlines officials said no decision has been taken regarding the cancellation of services to Thailand.

An Indian Airlines flight with 58 passengers on board flew to Bangkok from Kolkata on Wednesday, officials said.

On Tuesday, the airlines had cancelled its Delhi-Bangkok and Mumbai-Bangkok services, they said.
