In another upset, Democratic challenger Sherrod Brown defeated his Republican rival Mike DeVine by winning 56 per of the votes for the Senate seat from Ohio.Brown is a founder-member of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.
In 2000, Congressman Brown had written to India’s National Commission of Minorities pleading for a minority status for the Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir. This, he had argued, will help the Hindu minority in that state to preserve its culture and fight discrimination.
