Running for Maryland's District 42, Paliath fought the good fight, but was swept aside in the wave that heavily favoured Democrats.Paliath, 34, chief counsel in Republican Governor Bob Ehrlich's Office of Crime Control and Prevention, is the highest-ranking Indian in the Ehrlich administration.
Had he been elected, Paliath, whose parents hail from Kerala, would have been the second Indian in the Maryland Assembly after Kumar Barve, the Democratic Party's majority leader in the state assembly. Born and brought up in Baltimore, Paliath ran for the Maryland assembly in 2002, but from a different district. On that occasion, too, he lost.
