Winners & losers: Arnold Schwarzenegger
November 8
In California, Arnold Schwarzenegger beats George Bush hands down. Some 63 per cent of voters in the state approve of the Gubernator, while Bush has a mere 39 per cent job approval in the state.
Schwarzenegger, who beat Democratic challenger Phil Angelides with 56 per cent of the votes to retain his seat, also picked up 31 per cent of votes of those who disapprove of Bush -- a clear signal that California has swung against the President, but is in favour of the governor who has, on key issues such as stem cell research and even the Iraq war, repeatedly voiced opposition to White House policies.
