'I had been looking forward to this trip for a long time,' Bush told the media. 'I am looking forward to working with the President and the prime minister to foster a very important relationship,' he added.
When asked how confident he was about clinching the nuclear deal with New Delhi, he said, 'We have a press conference scheduled later.'
After the ceremonial reception, President Bush and the First Lady left for the Mahatma Gandhi memorial in Rajghat, where the American President offered prayers on the banks of the Yamuna.
Bush also noted that the weather in the Indian capital was 'beautiful.'
