How dictators live and die

July 28, 2006
Mao Zedong
December 26, 1893 - September 9, 1976

Who: Mao is credited as the architect of China, but he was as cruel and wicked as his mentor Stalin.

His cult of personality and policies like the Anti-Rightist Movement (in which any one who disagreed with Mao's ideas was eliminated) the Great Leap Forward (in which millions of Chinese died of starvation) and the Cultural Revolution (which created complete chaos in the country) ruined millions of lives.

How he died: Of old age.
