January 26: A nation celebrates

The cultural peagant, comprising tableaux by 16 states, five ministries and three departments, symbolising the progress made by the country in various fields, left the spectators ecstatic.

The tableaux, carrying this year's central theme of showcasing the country's military and economic strength, displayed a healthy mix of regional flavour, rapid strides made by the country in several fields and religious sentiments.

For Roy, a journalist with a Chinese daily, the cultural segment was impressive. "I am pretty interested in Indian culture and the segment featuring tableux from different states of India showed the diversity of the country," he said.
