The European Union on Friday said "positive" developments were in the offing on the critical issue of cooperation with India on civilian nuclear energy, just a day after Britain agreed to work with India in the sector.
"It seems the position is evolving positively, but it is for the individual member countries of EU to decide on the issue," EU's Deputy Director General (External Relations) Herve Jouanjean said at an interactive meeting with the Forum of Financial Writers.
He was responding to a query regarding EU's position on cooperation with India on the civilian nuclear energy front in the backdrop of the landmark India-US nuclear cooperation pact signed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] and US President George Bush [Images] in July.
The EU has been opposing cooperation with India in civilian nuclear energy so far, but Britain, a key member nation and head of the EU presidency at present, agreed on Friday to work together with India in the critical sector.
Jouanjean said EU regrets that India has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, but nonetheless was "extremely satisfied with India's behaviour" on the issue.
