Santosh, Havaldar Krishan Lal Sharma's wife, is still visibly shaken by the absence of her husband, nearly 34 years after he went missing.

Krishan Lal is a unique case, in that he was arrested by Pakistani forces in then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). "I do not know his whereabouts," she says, "but, like the others, I cling to the hope that he will be back someday."

Despite her pain, her determination shines through.

"He was in the First Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry. I am told that, after his arrest, he was shifted to a jail in Lahore. My daughter has never seen her father. She was born after his capture."
