Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament from Bihar Mohammed Shahabuddin, wanted in several cases, was Saturday arrested from his official residence in Delhi [Images].
Shahabuddin was arrested by a Bihar police team from 5, Bishambar Dass Marg, police sources said.
After his arrest, Shahabuddin was taken to the Parliament Street police station.
The Bihar police will take him on transit remand to Siwan, where will be produced before a local court.
Shahabuddin was arrested on the basis of a tip-off by the Delhi police to the Bihar police team camping in the capital.
The MP from Siwan was not even given time to change his clothes, which were brought to the police station by an aide.
He is to be produced before a Delhi court for seeking his transit remand, police sources said.
Shahabuddin had at least eight non-bailable arrest warrants pending against him, mostly those relating to seizure of foreign-made firearms, ammunition and unaccounted foreign currency during a raid on his Pratappur house in April.
The Siwan District and Sessions Judge Abhijit Sinha had on October 24 rejected his anticipatory bail plea in a case related to furnishing false information in the affidavit submitted during filing of nomination in the last Lok Sabha polls regarding the number of cases pending against him.
On the directive of the then district magistrate of Siwan C K Anil, who had virtually launched a campaign against the fourth time RJD MP from Siwan, a case was lodged with the town police station for having mentioned in the affidavit that only 19 cases were pending against him whereas actually the number of cases was 34.
Sinha again rejected his anticipatory bail petition on October 28, the latest, in a case pertaining to recovery of firearms of foreign make during raids at his house in April in which German-made automatic pistols and cartridges made in Pakistan were recovered.
Chief Judicial Magistrate of Siwan A K Bariar had issued a non-bailable warrant against Shahabuddin in an arms recovery case in September.
The RJD MP was externed from the district October till December 20 by District Magistrate S K Mal apprehending breach of peace during the ongoing Bihar elections and his name was also deleted from the voters list for remaining absent from the place of residence for more than six months as per the instruction of the Election Commission.
