At least 35 people were killed and more than 700 injured after a tornado tore through two districts of north Bangladesh on Sunday night. It also flattened 3,000 houses mainly made up of mud and straw, rendering nearly 5,000 people homeless, uprooted hundreds of trees and snapped electricity and communication lines in Rangpur and Gaibandha districts. Winds of nearly 100 km/h hit the districts, reports in Dhaka said. A local official told PTI from Gaibandha that many bodies had been found from the debris, which had blocked roads and was hampering rescue and relief operations. The death toll could increase in the districts, as rescue workers are yet to reach the worst affected areas due to blocked roads. The local administration was trying to cope with the hundreds of injured people who were admitted to various hospitals in the district.
