The rhino is no doubt the star attraction of Kaziranga. But, naturalists say Kaziranga is the only place where the big five of the jungle -- elephant, tiger, rhino, buffalo and deer -- coexist.

The Asiatic elephant lives in herds that vary in size from five to 80 animals.

Kaziranga is one of the most significant habitats of wild buffalos in the world.

Researchers say the wild buffalos live in harmony with rhinos and deer. The buffalos and rhinos provide the deer protection, as tigers keep off the fierce buffalos and rhinos.

The park is a sanctuary to bird life too. Twentyfive threatened species are found in Kaziranga.
