On arrival, the prime minister was received by US Ambassador to India David Mulford and Indian Ambassador Ronen Sen aboard the aircraft.

As he came down the gangway to the red carpet he was greeted by the Indian ambassador's wife, Kalpana Sen, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Don Camp, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian embassy Raminder Singh Jassal, and the Bush administration's Chief of Protocol Don Ensenart.

The honour guard marches with Indian and American flags as the band played the national anthems of both nations.
