India has been lobbying for years to get a permanent seat on a revamped UN Security Council, which at the moment comprises the US, Russia [Images], France [Images], UK and China.

On Monday, India, Japan [Images], Germany [Images] and Brazil-collectively known as the G4, introduced a UN reform plan which suggests enlarging the Security Council by adding six permanent and four temporary members.

The G4 resolution would need 127 votes. But even if ratified it would still need approval of the five permanent members.  

UNSC: 'Pak oppn not country-specific'

While the G4 members are optimistic, others say getting the 127 votes needed for the proposal to take off are bleak.
