Twenty-eight more cases of suspected Japanese encephalitis were reported from various districts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday taking the toll due to 185, Additional director, State Health Services, D P Mishra said. He said Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts remained worst affected from where 235 patients were so far admitted to the BRD Medical College here.

Among others admitted to the hospital, 200 were children, he said adding, that on an average 40-50 patients were being admitted everyday.

Mishra said some of the private hospitals were also extending their services, as it was becoming difficult to cope with heavy inflow of patients everyday.

Chief medical officer of the hospital Dr S Chakravarty said doctors engaged in the ongoing panchayat elections in the state have been called back to the hospital.

Hospitals around the state have been asked to take measures such as anti-larval treatment, indoor spray and fogging and isolated wards have been set up for treatment of encephalitis patients.
