CBI to take charge of Tehelka case

October 21, 2004 21:37 IST

The government has decided to hand over to the Central Bureau of Investigation the enquiry into the Tehelka case.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday, sources said.

The notification is being prepared, the sources said.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil attended the meeting, among others.

Law Minister H R Bhardwaj had a fortnight ago announced the Centre's decision to wind up the Justice S N Phukan Commission, which was probing the Tehelka case, and hand over the probe to an independent agency.
