Tamil to be declared classical language

The government has announced that Tamil will be declared a classical language.

"The government will set up a committee to examine the question of declaring all languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution as official languages," President A P J Abdul Kalam told a joint sitting of Parliament on Monday.
