DMU train driver's body cremated

The body of Avtar Singh, who was driving the Jalandhar-Pathankot Diesel Multiple Unit passenger train when it collided with the Jammu Tawi-Ahmedabad Express near Mukerian in Punjab, was cremated on Wednesday afternoon. | Also Read | | |
| Earlier, a large number of Singh's colleagues, railway officials, relatives and friends were present when his body was brought to his residence in Jalandhar's Railway Colony.Thirty-eight people, including the driver of the other train, died in the accident on Tuesday. Singh joined the railways in 1968 and was promoted as a driver 16 years ago. He was to retire in January 2005. He is survived by his wife Charanjit Kaur and four sons.
