Scores of Indian Americans gathered at New York's Shaan restaurant to celebrate their association with the Republican Party and seek support for US President George Bush's re-election campaign.

The large turnout and timing gave the event the appearance of a pre-convention bash as it was held on the eve of the Republican National Convention in New York.

Republican Congressman Joe Wilson from South Carolina -- co-chair of the Congressional Caucus for India and Indian Americans -- was among the evening's stars.
